Chucks vs Adidas was born from a birthday celebration Cody Phillpotts started in 2010 to celebrate his wife love of the Converse brand, it was called "Rock Your Chucks". This event was well received, Cody collaborated with other promoters and Just Cody and Friends was created. Just Cody and Friends are event promoters extraordinaire comprised of group of men who are military veterans (both disabled and honorably discharged), blue and white collar workers, professionals and community leaders. These individuals took Cody's vision and created this social experience to promote unity, relationship building and an opportunity to network in a stress free environment caused by what deemed the “Great Depression” of our era due to the Detroit automobile and housing crisis.
In 2014, Adidas was added and the theme was titled “Chucks –vs– Adidas" (CVA) which appealed to over 3000 people wearing a mixture of styles and looks of Converse and/or Adidas attire, which has impacted the sales of both brands. During the event, we award the creativity of Adidas and Converse best-dressed look allowing attendees to unleash their alter ego of a nostalgic, timeless, and affordable wear for almost 100 years.
The event attracts a mature party-goer that enjoys, mingling and dancing to hits furnished by leading local radio emcees and DJs. Last year's event attracted over 4,000 attendees, doubling 2017's attendance. Local athletic wear storefronts design their store displays to coincide with the event, as the sales
of Converse and Adidas attire spike in the weeks leading to the event.
The themed event is not only for networking but also a vehicle to “give back” to the community. Each year CVA donate a portion of the proceeds to a non-profit organization geared towards health and wellness as well as organizations to combat homelessness and hunger, and support youth in southeastern Michigan. Over the last few years the Juvenile Diabetes, Karmanos Cancer Institute, Jackets for Jobs, American Lung Association and Veterans Lives Matter are a few organizations that have benefited from CVA through financial and community awareness.
CVA have garnered the attention and talents of Detroit’s #1 urban radio station, who is very impressed with the athletic themed event creating and generating huge success of an untapped market. Last year in 2018 we had 4000 that attended “CVA5” at Chene Park on July 1st . This Year on Sunday June 30 2019, the event will be held at Hart Plaza with over 5000 expected.
